The firm

Traditional craft, digital facts

We investigate blockchain transactions and advise on the legal work around crypto and other digital assets. We stay small so a partner is actually on the matter.

The founders already had years of experience in securities enforcement, bank deals, and commercial trials. Digital assets did not replace that work. They changed the facts: public transaction records, counterparties who are hard to identify, and products that go live before the paperwork is finished.

We advise crypto companies and institutions that need a direct answer. A bank testing custody, a fund whose treasury was stolen, and a fight over who controls a protocol are different jobs. Each one needs a lawyer who can read the blockchain and still file something a judge will recognize.

The firm is based in New York. Questions of English law are handled with a lawyer admitted there, and we stay responsible for the combined advice. If a license has to come from another country, we work with local counsel and keep the advice in one place.

Aether Digital Counsel is not a large firm with a crypto page added on. If a matter needs a practice we do not have — a tax dispute, for example — we say so and we bring in someone who does.

The record before the theory

We do not describe a hack, a listing, or a token until we have looked at the transactions, the documents, and what people actually told buyers.

One narrative

The answer to a regulator, the court papers, and any public statement come from the same timeline. Mixed stories turn a manageable problem into a case.

Say the limit

If a trace, a legal classification, or a deal structure would not hold up with a skeptical reader, we rewrite it or drop it. You hear the weak point before the other side does.

How an engagement starts

  1. 01

    A short conflict check

Tell us who is involved, which assets, and the deadline. We confirm we are free to act before anyone sends documents.

  2. 02

    A scoped first memo

The first thing you get is a plan: what we will look at, what a useful answer looks like, and what it will not cover.

  3. 03

    The matter itself

An investigation, a filing, a negotiation, or a deal. A partner stays on it. You are not handed to a staffing chart.
